The "AI and Health" chair of Inetum and the ECE engineering school

Inetum, a European leader in digital services and solutions, and ECE, a leading engineering school in Paris, Bordeaux and Lyon, have launched the "AI & Health" chair to ensure that future engineers in the sector are taught as closely as possible to the field. This program was born from a common desire to support the health sector with a pragmatic approach to AI applications and new technologies. In the field of e-health, Inetum is conducting a research program in partnership with the Heart and Vessel Unit of the Cardiac Surgery Department at Hôpital Bichat aimed at developing an innovative technological solution for remote monitoring for post-operative follow-up of patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass surgery.

The ECE " Health and Technology " major

The first year of the AI and Health chair provided by Inetum ended last May with the last defenses of the students of the "Health and Technology" major of ECE. Created in Paris in 1919, member of the first private operator of French higher education, OMNES Education, ECE is a multi-campus, multi-program, multi-sector engineering school, specialized in AI and data science, digital engineering, combination of system engineering, computer sciences and networks. ECE's Health and Technology major builds on the school's expertise in innovation in the health, research and biology sectors:

• Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology;
• Biological signals and instrumentation;
• Signal processing and analysis;
• Disability and prostheses;
• Surgery, neuroscience and implants;
• Cellular neurobiology;
• Health Robotics.

Through its HANDITECH program, it has notably contributed to the birth of Wyes (When your eyes speak), a start-up awarded as the best Vivatech 2021 innovation for its inclusive communication and AI devices for people with disabilities. Its manager Frédéric Ravaut, who is in charge of disability issues at ECE, dedicates his research to unconventional Human/Machine interfaces and more specifically to the control of machines by thought.

A teaching close to the field allows to understand the uses and the needs, which are constantly evolving, contributes to accelerate the positive impact of digital technology to develop concrete solutions and imagine those of tomorrow. Frédéric Ravaut states: "The ECE Health & Technology major has existed for 8 years. It trains about 50 students per year. We have excellent teaching programs and we are delighted that Inetum contributes to them via this AI & Health chair.". He adds: "For this AI & Health chair, Inetum has brought in four experts in Health, Innovation and Data on the different areas of artificial intelligence. It is essential for us to create a link with referent professionals and globally with the e-health ecosystem. ECE has been an active member of France BioTech for 3 years, an association gathering the main entrepreneurs of HealthTech and MedTech". Jean-François Penciolelli, Head of Healthcare Sector at Inetum, Jean-Paul Muller, Global Practice Manager AI, Laurence Houdeville, Global Practice Manager Data and Hervé De-Belenet, Global Health Manager, are the four Inetum expert speakers of this AI & Healthcare Chair. For Jean-François Penciolelli, future engineers must understand AI to better understand its application in the health sector. He explains: "This allows them to understand the stakes and impacts on health professions with concrete use cases and an important focus on the exploited and valued data. We integrate the ethical and liability framework around AI. And we provide them with valuable knowledge in all areas of AI: strong and weak AI, symbolic and numerical approaches, deterministic or non-deterministic algorithms, maching learning, neural networks...".
