L’Association française de normalisation est l'organisation française qui représente la France auprès de l'Organisation internationale de normalisation et du Comité européen de normalisation.
Créée en 1926, AFNOR est une association régie par la loi de 1901, composée de près de 2 500 entreprises adhérentes. Sa mission est d'animer et de coordonner le processus d'élaboration des normes et de promouvoir leur application.
Reconnue par les pouvoirs publics - qui ont confié au Ministère chargé de l'industrie un rôle de coordination interministérielle et de contrôle - AFNOR est le noyau central du système français de normalisation. Rassemblant autour d'elle tous les grands acteurs socio-économiques, elle est à l'écoute de leurs besoins et collabore étroitement avec les 25 bureaux de normalisation et autres instances professionnelles. Elle développe une collection de normes répondant à leurs objectifs stratégiques.
