Microsoft offers a free online training around machine learning on GitHub

In Europe, online courses on artificial intelligence are becoming more common: Finland has launched Elements of AI to train European citizens in the basics of AI, and the Institut Montaigne offers its OpenClassrooms training program entitled Objectif AI . Now it’s Microsoft’s turn to offer an online course on machine learning, completely free of charge, to help beginners in the field. For twelve weeks, Internet users will be able to follow the training designed by Azure Cloud Advocates, a team specialized in AI and affiliated with Microsoft

An additional course to contribute to artificial intelligence training

By launching this online training, Microsoft wants to introduce interested people to AI and more specifically to machine learning methods. During the confinement of March 2020, the company offered free courses in order to increase the digital skills of a maximum of people.

To develop this course dedicated to machine learning, Microsoft has mobilized its Cloud Advocates team. The course is composed of videos, infographics, notes, quizzes of all kinds and assignments. The objective: to ensure that participants in the training can acquire basic skills in machine learning.

A course that teaches the basics of several machine learning techniques

During the twelve weeks of training, the Internet user will participate in 24 courses, that is to say a frequency of two courses per week. Each course will take place as follows:

  • A quick quiz to “warm up” before the course begins
  • Reading of the lesson interspersed with activities to complete
  • Project design based on the understanding of the day’s lesson, with a challenge and an assignment to complete.
  • A quick quiz to check if the concepts have been understood
  • Possibility to go to a discussion forum to deepen one’s knowledge

Several topics will be covered such as reinforcement learning, natural language processing, time series forecasting, clustering, regression and classification. Each theme will be put into practice in web applications. Scikit-learn will be the resource library used.

The deep learning will not be topical since it will be the subject of a new training “AI for beginners”. Microsoft also announces that its training on machine learning can be used for its next program: “data science for beginners”.
