G42 is an Emirati company specializing in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, based in Abu Dhabi. Founded in 2018, it is primarily owned by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, a member of the United Arab Emirates royal family and national security advisor. G42 has established itself as a major player in various sectors such as AI, data analytics, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, primarily serving the government and industrial sectors like healthcare, finance, aviation, oil, and gas.
G42 stands out for its expertise in advanced technologies, notably in developing AI solutions and complex data analytics. The company has expanded its scope through its seven subsidiaries, thus covering a wide range of technological domains. G42's commitment to artificial intelligence is illustrated by its partnership with OpenAI and Microsoft, facilitating the exploitation of advanced natural language processing models and other innovations in generative AI.
Among recent projects, G42 plays a central role in the deployment of Stargate UAE, a 1-gigawatt AI computing infrastructure in Abu Dhabi, in partnership with OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank Group, and Cisco. This colossal project is part of the "U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership." Stargate UAE, which will be operational in 2026, aims to provide AI infrastructure within a 2,000-mile radius, potentially covering half of the world's population.
G42 is also involved in the OREUS consortium, contributing to the establishment of a next-generation computing center in France, near Grenoble. This project, in partnership with CORE42, a subsidiary of G42, aims to strengthen European sovereignty in artificial intelligence and computing capabilities.
G42 has quickly established itself as a strategic partner for leading companies like Microsoft and OpenAI. The collaboration with Microsoft has been strengthened by a $1.5 billion investment, allowing Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, to join G42's board of directors. This partnership aims to bring advanced AI infrastructure to the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa regions, while ensuring high standards of security and privacy.
In 2024, G42 was at the heart of several strategic initiatives, notably by participating in the AI Safety Summit in Seoul. The company signed the "Frontier AI Safety Commitments," thereby committing to developing and deploying its AI models securely. This summit, bringing together 16 major AI companies, underscores G42's commitment to responsibility and transparency in technological development.
G42 continues to strengthen its international position through its strategic partnerships and investments in large-scale projects. By collaborating with global leaders like Microsoft and OpenAI, the Emirati company asserts itself as an essential pillar in the global technological ecosystem, while actively contributing to the rise of AI and advanced technologies on a global scale.
