Zoom on Hi! PARIS, the center dedicated to AI and Data Sciences of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris and HEC Paris

Hi! PARIS was launched last September by HEC Paris and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris). This interdisciplinary research and teaching center is dedicated to AI and Data Sciences. Combining education, research and innovation, this first interdisciplinary and inter-institutional centre in Europe, aims to become a world leader in the field within 5 years, addressing the main challenges related to technological transformation and its impact on business and society.

The Hi! PARIS centre will rely on the 300 researchers and the infrastructures of IP Paris and HEC Paris in these fields. It is the continuation of an intense dynamic collaboration between the two institutions, which already share a common doctoral school and master’s degrees. It is entirely financed by corporate sponsors mobilized around the two academic institutions.

Hi! PARIS is a unique space for breakthroughs, training and innovation, technology development and transfer. Hi! PARIS will be active in key application areas such as energy and environment, defense and security, health, retail and luxury goods, telecoms, food, finance and insurance… By strengthening the collaborations between IP Paris and HEC Paris, and by capitalizing on their expertise covering a wide academic spectrum, Hi! PARIS will have a powerful impact on a European and global scale in terms of data-IA research and training (engineers, managers, young researchers, continuing education), resources that are now indispensable to companies and laboratories, both public and private.

According to Professors Eric Moulines (IP Paris) and Thierry Foucault (HEC Paris), scientific co-directors of the Center, “Thanks to a world-class team of teacher-researchers, Hi! PARIS aims to carry out projects that will enable the full potential of AI to be exploited by recruiting 30 new professors and 150 PhD students among the best in the world, and to train the future generation of engineers and managers who will build an AI that serves everyone, by tripling the number of students trained in the field in 5 years. »

In order to support its global ambitions, the Centre relies on a disruptive vision of corporate sponsorship based on significant financial contributions supporting long-term research. These collaborations, which are essential to become an international champion of higher education and research in AI and data sciences, will enable the establishment of a postdoctoral program capable of competing with the largest institutions in the world. The funding, coming from partner companies and academic founders, will allow the recruitment of talents whose research axes will complement the themes already studied within Hi! PARIS. The Centre already counts on the support of five founding patrons: L’Oréal, Capgemini, TOTAL, Kering and Rexel.

For Eric Labaye, President of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris :

“The objective is to create a world leader in the field of Artificial Intelligence and data science. Through the excellence of our research and training, this centre will work at the frontiers of science to develop responsible and ethical Artificial Intelligence and data science. Hi! PÄRIS will contribute to the development of digital sovereignty for France and Europe, ensuring the competitiveness of its companies, the efficiency of its administrations, and the quality of life of its citizens.

According to Peter Todd, Director General of HEC Paris :

“The success of our project is based on a commitment to multi-disciplinarity at the highest level, combining the complementary and recognised expertise of HEC Paris and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, but also on the support of major players in the economic world. We hope that many companies will join Hi! PARIS, shaping a new AI for a sustainable economy and a fairer society.
