For this first episode of Synapse AI, Mathieu Barreau receives Professor Pierrich Plusquellec to study the link between technology and emotions.

A biologist by training, Pierrich Plusquellec holds a doctorate in Ethics from the University of Paris XIII, the Study of Behaviour and its Evolutionary Function. In 2001, he joined the research group on psychosocial maladjustment at Sainte-Justine Hospital, where he specialized in the development of young children’s social behaviour. In 2004, he joined the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec and transposed his research framework to a particularly vulnerable population, the Inuit of Nunavik. In 2008, he joined the Centre d’Étude sur le Stress Humain at Louis H. Hospital. Lafontaine Hospital, and his work focuses on the role of stress in social dominance. In 2009, he was appointed Associate Director of the CESH. Since then, his career has focused on programs aimed at teaching children and adolescents to control their stress in their daily lives. In 2013, he received the Child Welfare League of Canada’s Award for Excellence in Research and Programs. In collaboration with Sonia Lupien, he recently developed a web-based chronic stress prevention platform (Stress et Compagnie), as well as a mobile application for detecting and resolving chronic stress (iSMART). In 2012, he will obtain a professorship in psychoeducation at the Université de Montréal. In 2015, he founded and directs the Centre d’études en sciences de la communication non verbale. In 2018, he and his wife published a book on the subject “Votre intuition : ce superpouvoir” (Your intuition: this superpower) at Editions Trécarré.
