Mailinblack integrates Artificial Intelligence to Secure Link for a more serene navigation.

Mailinblack, the French leader in cybersecurity, has been protecting companies against email-based cyberattacks for over 15 years with its innovative solutions. Its goal is to make cybersecurity accessible to all organizations, not just large companies, and on November 9 it announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Secure Link, its email link analysis solution. This solution allows to anticipate 78% of links that will be malicious thanks to a more advanced analysis of URLs. This increased email security is essential for organizations as 90% of phishing attacks involve human error.

More than 75% of emails exchanged carry spam, unwanted advertising promotions or computer viruses, resulting in lost time and possibly data theft and financial damage that can impact businesses.

Founded in 2003, Mailinblack tackles this problem with a team of 70 employees based in Marseille who design, develop and host its cybersecurity solutions in France. Among them, the Protect solution (email protection against malware, phishing, ransomware, spam, scam…) or the Phishing Coach awareness and training tool, which reduces the risk of cyberattacks by 70%.

Winner of the Grand Défi Cyber, Mailinblack now offers its expertise in security, R&D and artificial intelligence to a million users and 14,000 customers in the public and private sectors, including OpenClassrooms, the city of Lens, Grand Frais, Louis Roederer, the Toulouse University Hospital, the National Estate of Chambord, etc…. It processes more than 5 billion emails each year. To accelerate its developments in Europe, it raised €14 million from the Entrepreneur Venture fund, Crédit Agricole and Caisse d’Epargne in April 2019.

Secure Link, a technology developed by Mailinblack in 2020, verifies the URLs contained in emails. It first performs a rewrite to check the origin of the link, test it and compare it to a database that lists malicious links. Then, thanks to the artificial intelligence developed by the Mailinblack teams, it performs an advanced analysis of the content and form of the link, which will allow its classification.

Artificial Intelligence for better protection

The Artificial Intelligence integrated into Secure Link is capable of performing a triple analysis of a URL:

  • A morphological analysis that looks for special characters used and compares word size within the link ;
  • A semantic analysis that checks for word combinations that occur regularly in malicious links;
  • An analysis of the web page to which the link contained in the email directs, in particular through a comparison of the URL extensions. Once this threefold analysis has been carried out, Secure Link directs the user to the desired page if the link proves to be malicious, or if not, warns the user of the danger via a dedicated page.

The Artificial Intelligence integrated into Secure Link therefore allows for a more advanced analysis and improves the IT security of organizations. Employees can thus browse with peace of mind in complete security, an undeniable benefit given that 80% of cyber attacks are transmitted by email.

Thomas Kerjean, CEO of Mailinblack, concludes:

“The creation of our AI Lab in 2019 has enabled Mailinblack teams to develop more Artificial Intelligence technologies. Innovation is at the heart of our DNA and we are proud to be able to bring new and ever more powerful solutions to our customers. The Internet user remains the target of 99% of cyberattacks (Harvard Business Review) and the contribution of AI to our Secure Link technology increases protection at the moment of click by 78%.”
