Thales launches SelTrac™ G8, a new generation of automatic train control system

In a press release dated March 22, Thales announced this new generation of automatic train control system; it is notably ready for autonomous operation of metros.

Thales intends to support cities and rail operators in the current context and the challenges of an economic recovery, which is why the emphasis has been placed on the system’s flexibility and scalability.

Thanks to its flexible options, the new digital architecture of SelTrac™ G8 makes it possible to limit the number of trackside equipment required. With SelTrac™ G8, transportation operators will only need to perform simple software upgrades to benefit from system enhancements throughout the CBTC lifecycle. The G8 platform can also be used to upgrade an existing SelTrac™ system. Thus, by facilitating the seamless integration of future technologies, G8 enables performance improvements or manages obsolescence, thereby protecting operators’ investments.
SelTrac™ G8 offers new and enhanced services to assist operators in their quest for 100% system availability and on-time performance goals. These services include system health monitoring to reduce maintenance staffing and respond more quickly, increased resilience in the event of an outage, with greater visibility of hardware and software enhancements to extend the life of the system without disrupting operations.

“Since its introduction to the urban public transport market, SelTracTM has become a worldwide reference. With this new generation of CBTCs, Thales is supporting operators in their digital transformation by delivering an innovative solution equipped with the latest technologies and preparing the advent of autonomous metro for the next 30 years and beyond. “Alcino de Sousa, Vice President, General Manager, Urban Rail Signaling, Thales
