Tesla Bot, the humanoid robot project presented by Elon Musk exploits autonomous vehicle technology

As mentioned by Elon Muskat the beginning of August, August 19, 2021 was an important day for the Tesla brand which organized the Tesla AI Day, an event focused on innovations in artificial intelligence. The firm’s CEO, but also the CEO of SpaceX took the opportunity to make a surprising announcement by introducing the Tesla Bot. Unlike Tesla’s main activities which revolve around cars and autonomous driving, the Tesla Bot is not a vehicle, but a robot with the appearance of a human being.

While Tesla is known to offer many automotive innovations, Elon Musk presented the amazing Tesla Bot, the future humanoid robot of the brand that should exploit the AI already used in Tesla’s vehicles, such as the one present in the Autopilot. Named Tesla Bot, the silhouette of the robot would look very similar to that of a human being:

Introducing his project, the entrepreneur was full of praise for his company:

“Tesla is certainly the most important robotics company in the world, because the cars are semi-conscious robots on wheels, with a dedicated on-board computer for autonomous driving. […] It makes sense to give this a humanoid form.”

Size, weight, speed, carrying capacity… A robot to avoid performing physical tasks on a daily basis

During the presentation, the Tesla boss highlighted some of the features of the future Tesla Bot. These robots will measure 1 meter 72 and weigh 56 kilograms. They will be able to move at a speed of 8 km/h, carry loads of more than 20 kg and can lift a load of 75 kg like a weightlifter.

All these characteristics show that the robot will be able to carry out certain everyday tasks such as climbing stairs, carrying things or entering buildings. The goal is to be able to replace the human on repetitive tasks and to make physical work something optional. The robot would also be “friendly”.

Technical characteristics

In order to give the Tesla Bot the ability to see around it, the cameras of the company’s Autopilot system will be used. On its torso, we will find the FSD computer, already present in the vehicles of the brand. The aim is to use the software developed for the vehicles while trying to make them evolve.
