Volvo Sweden adopts Phyron’s smart technology for its used cars

Volvo Sweden announced on March 8 that it has signed an agreement with Phyron, a Swedish company that pioneered video technology. Thirty used car dealers with the Volvo Selekt quality label will use Phyron’s intelligent solution as part of a nationwide pilot project, which is expected to speed up their stock rotation.

In France, the new car market dropped in 2021 (-18.6%) while 6 million used cars were sold. The automotive sector has been heavily impacted by the pandemic that has led to a global shortage of semiconductors. Rather than waiting for the unlikely delivery of a new vehicle, customers are turning to recent used cars and this is precisely the niche that Volvo is exploiting with Volvo Selekt, which offers vehicles that are less than 5 years old, with less than 150,000 km. To put the vehicles of the label in value thanks to videos is the mission of Phyron, it is quite naturally that the agreement Volvo Sweden – Phyron was set up.

The intelligent solution of Phyron

Through this agreement, Volvo Selekt will use Phyron’s automated videos with integrated artificial intelligence for used car sales in a nationwide pilot that will convert more than 1,500 used car ads into high-quality branded videos within minutes.

Artificial intelligence software and algorithms allow Phyron to create videos for automotive ads that can be used on dealer websites or social networks. As a result, dealers can save a tremendous amount of time and money on video production. The dealer provides at least three still images and important product details. Artificial intelligence then identifies key features of the images, including different camera angles, interior elements and exterior reflections, then removes the backgrounds and replaces them with a neutral. The software then adds special effects, shadows and overlays the desired product specifications and any customer offers on the applicable images, including price and dealer brand.

Using the cloud, Phyron can process an unlimited number of videos at once, taking only about 10 minutes to generate, publish them live to a single retailer’s website or auction site, or scale them across an entire network if necessary. When a detail changes, such as price or promotion, the data stream is updated and the video is automatically modified.

Johan Sundstrand, CEO of Phyron, said:

“Phyron and Volvo Car share the same vision. Our software not only ensures that each individual vehicle in their books reflects their premium status and customer-centric approach, but if any of the vehicle information changes in the data stream, the videos will be updated and rendered automatically, ensuring that every Volvo ad uses the corrected advertising information in the most compelling videos ever.”

Johan Carlsson, head of used cars at Volvo Car Sweden said in a statement:

“Thanks to Phyron, this is the first time here at Volvo that we are able to support our entire used car dealer network with optimized support for digital video advertising content. Every used car in the Volvo Selekt program will have a custom branded film of consistently high quality.”

Phyron has been working with automotive brands, dealers and partners since 2019 and now has over 1,000 customers across Europe. A day after announcing the agreement with Volvo Sweden, the company unveiled a new agreement with Wensink Automotive based in the Netherlands.
