Contentsquare announces acquisition of Upstride and $500 million fundraising

Contentsquare, a company specializing in experience analytics, has announced the acquisition of Upstride, a French deeptech that aims to improve the performance of its clients’ machine learning tools. With the arrival of this start-up, the firm hopes to accelerate the company’s roadmap for innovation in AI. In addition, the French unicorn has raised nearly $500 million in a Serie E round of financing, always with the same goal in mind: accelerating innovation.

A fundraising of nearly $500 million to display its ambitions for innovation in AI

Last May, Contentsquare raised $500 million in a Serie E funding round led by investment fund SoftBank and its Vision Fund. The raise will allow the brand to hire more than 1,500 people over the next three years and expand the company’s presence in its current territories and capture new ones. Contentsquare has recently launched three new products, increased its patent portfolio to 11 for a total of 28 pending or published applications.

The unicorn valued at nearly $2.8 billion had already announced its intention to invest more in artificial intelligence and accelerate innovation, both organically and through acquisitions. The company announced the arrival of Upstride, whose highly skilled engineers, specialized in deep learning and neural networks, will join Contentsquare’s Data Science team.

Jonathan Cherki, CEO and founder of Contentsquare, speaking around the AI startup’s arrival, said:

“Data is the heart of our solution, and Upstride is home to some of the most creative and innovative talent in tech. We are very excited to welcome Upstride to the Contentsquare family and begin pushing the new frontiers of AI together.”

The Upstride acquisition: the third for Contentsquare

Gary Roth, co-founder and CEO of Upstride, discusses how valuable Contentsquare’s acquisition of his company is to a successful digital transformation:

“AI will enable a complete rethink of digital journeys to significantly improve our online experience. Already analyzing billions of user interactions daily, Contentsquare is ideally positioned to lead this transformation and become one of the largest tech companies in the world. We are very excited to join Contentsquare and unlock the full potential of artificial intelligence for our customers!”

Founded in 2018 with the support of Entrepreneur First, deep-tech investors, Upstride has focused on developing next-generation APIs to try and push the boundaries of deep learning. With this acquisition, Contentsquare brings 14 world-class engineers representing 8 different nationalities into its workforce, including 7 PhDs in Deep Learning from some of the world’s top universities. Gary Roth will join Contentsquare in a strategic position.

In addition, Contentsquare has also acquired two companies in the past: Adapte Mon Web and Clicktale, launched a start-up incubator and created the Contentsquare Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote digital accessibility for all.
