Morocco: The General Directorate of Taxes proposes a bilingual chatbot

The Moroccan General Directorate of Taxes has equipped itself, last January, with a conversational agent “chatbot” as part of the diversification of its communication channels and facilitation of its interactions with users as well as in application of the law No. 55-19 on the simplification of procedures and administrative formalities.

The Moroccan administration now uses a wide range of tools and communication channels to interact with citizens. On March 6, 2020, it promulgated the law n°55-19 in the framework of the easing of administrative procedures and formalities as well as the digitalization of the administration. The relationship between the administration and its users, especially in terms of response time is mentioned and it is stipulated that:

The law ensures the monitoring of the continuous improvement of the quality of services rendered to users, through the acceleration of the pace of work and the strengthening of the efficiency of the processing of requests, through the digitization of procedures and administrative formalities, the use of innovative technologies in information systems and communication.

It is within this framework that the Directorate General announced the deployment of a conversational agent “chatbot” in a statement.

The chatbot of the DGI

This virtual agent, which is based on a brick of artificial intelligence, can interact with users in two languages (Arabic and French), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and assist them in their dealings with the tax authorities. It completes the existing assistance system: call center, online appointment booking and e-claims.

This first version of the chatbot has been designed to answer the most recurrent questions related to the “SIMPL” online tax services, with a view to progressively extending its scope to other tax-related aspects.

The chatbot is available on :

  • The DGI Internet portal at www.tax.gov.ma;
  • The mobile application “Daribati”.
