Canada: BrainBox AI, winner of the 2021 Tech For Our Planet Challenge, signs a global distribution agreement with ABB Group

BrainBox AI, a Montreal-based Canadian startup pioneering predictive and self-adaptive technology for commercial buildings, announced in late January a global distribution agreement with ABB, a leader in cutting-edge technologies. ABB, a lead investor in a late October 2021 fundraising, will offer BrainBox AI’s technology services with a co-branded client user interface (UI) to its customers.

BrainBox AI

BrainBox AI, founded in 2017, is a proptech leader focused on using AI to combat climate change by making commercial buildings smarter and more efficient. Its solution combines AI and cloud computing to optimize heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in real time, enabling existing infrastructure to become predictive and self-adaptive, while significantly reducing energy consumption and emissions. BrainBox AI’s deep learning algorithms can save up to 25% in energy costs, reduce carbon footprints by 20-40% and increase occupant comfort by 60%. In addition, they could optimize equipment lifetimes by 50%.

BrainBox AI was selected with 9 other innovative start-ups for the “Tech For Our Planet” challenge which aims at carbon neutrality, it was able to present its solution at the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, (COP26) and won the challenge. Sam Ramadori, president of BrainBox AI said:

“We are extremely pleased to have received the highest honor at this global event and express our gratitude for the recognition of our commitment to fighting climate change.”

More than 9 million square meters of commercial buildings on five continents are equipped with this technology, including in developing countries, addressing the equity and accessibility challenges the world faces in its fight against climate change.

The ABB-BrainBox AI agreement

ABB was formed in 1988 through the merger of two companies, ASEA, a Swedish electrical engineering company founded in 1883, and Brown, Boveri & Cie, an electrical engineering company founded in 1891 in Baden, Switzerland. Today, it is a technology leader in the fields of electrification, robotics, automation and motion. It has about 105,000 employees in more than 100 countries. ABB Ability™ solutions combine ABB’s deep domain expertise with connectivity and software innovation. The company states:

“We work together to create workplaces where anything is possible. With intelligent and automatic lighting, climate control, heating and motion detection, we are making it easier than ever to achieve greater energy efficiency and security. With digital solutions, everything can even be controlled remotely, giving you total control wherever you are, whenever you need it most.”

Integrating the BrainBox Ai solution will be a plus for ABB’s building management. Thorsten Mueller, Global Product Group Leader, Home Automation and Building Management Solutions, ABB Smart Buildings, states:

“All business leaders need up-to-date, real-time information to make smart decisions. Property management is no different. Operational data helps companies highlight areas for improvement, optimize operations, find efficiencies and save money. Data mining helps create buildings that learn by processing the vast amounts of data that integrated building systems create; AI algorithms in smart buildings can make autonomous decisions around HVAC and lighting systems that benefit the owner, employees and the environment.”

For his part, Franck Sullivan, chief commercial officer at BrainBox AI, explained:

“This announcement is a natural next step in our relationship with ABB, further demonstrating their commitment to bringing automation and AI to market. This distribution agreement paves the way for deeper collaboration, including integration and joint product development.”
