Le Global Forum on AI for Humanity se tient cette semaine à Paris

GFAIH

Cette semaine se tient à Paris le Global Forum on AI for Humanity (GFAIH). Organisé sous le haut patronage du Président de la République, il se tient dans le contexte de la prochaine organisation d’un Partenariat mondial sur l’IA, comme décidé lors du dernier sommet du G7. Le GFAIH réunira les meilleurs experts internationaux de l’IA, de ses applications, des sciences humaines et sociales et des représentants de la société civile…

Mardi 29 octobre et mercredi 30 octobre, c’est un panel de près de 150 intervenants éclaireurs dans ces domaines qui aborderont des thèmes centraux tels que l’IA responsable, Avenir de l’emploi et impacts économiques de l’IA, IA et fiabilité : cybersécurité, sécurité, vie privée ou encore Défis éthiques, etc.

Présentation des sessions thématiques des 29 et 30 octobre

MARDI 29 OCTOBRE

Session 1 – IA et fiabilité : cybersécurité, sécurité, vie privée, intelligibilité des techniques d’IA

Les interactions humaines avec les appareils et les systèmes comme celles à caractère social, sont de plus en plus gérées par l’IA. Cela implique de fortes exigences pour garantir la sécurité des applications d’IA critiques, par exemple dans le domaine des systèmes de santé ou de transport, ou encore dans celui de la sécurité et de la confidentialité des voies de communication et de traitement. Des techniques et des réglementations doivent être développées en matière de validation, de certification et d’audit des outils liés à l’IA afin de garantir la confiance qu’elle inspire.

  • CHATILA, Raja – Sorbonne University
    Raja Chatila, IEEE Fellow, is Professor of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Ethics at Sorbonne Université. He is director of the Laboratory of Excellence “SMART” on human-machine interaction. He has contributed to several fields of AI and autonomous and interactive robotics throughout his career and is author of over 160 international publications. Chatila is President of the IEEE Global Initiative on the Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, a member of the European Commission’s High Level Expert Group on AI and a member of the Commission on the Ethics of Research Ethics in Digital Science and Technology (CERNA) in France.
  • DIGNUM, Viginia – Umeå University
    Virginia Dignum is a Professor at the Department of Computing Science at Umeå University, where she is the Wallenberg Chair on Responsible AI, and is associated with the Faculty Technology Policy and Management at the Delft University of Technology. She is also the scientific director of the Wallenberg AI and Autonomous systems Program for Humanities and Society (WASP-HS), a Fellow of the European AI Association, a member of the EC High Level Expert Group on AI, of the IEEE Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous Systems, and founding member ofvthe the Dutch AI Alliance (ALLAI).
Session 2 – Gouvernance des données : défis éthiques, politiques et juridiques

La boucle qui relie les données à l’information, la connaissance, l’action et la collecte de davantage de données est de plus en plus automatisée et performante, ce qui entraîne des retentissements possibles ou réels plus forts. Il est essentiel de clarifier les règles de gouvernance des données personnelles, des métadonnées et des données agrégées à différents niveaux, et de définir les moyens techniques pour appliquer ces règles.

Leurs bios :

  • DELACROIX, Sylvie – University of Birmingham and Alan Turing Institute –
    Professor Delacroix focuses on the intersection between law and ethics, with a particular interest in data and machine Ethics. Her current research focuses on the design of computer systems meant for morally-loaded contexts. She is also considering the potential inherent in ‘bottom-up’ Data Trusts as a mechanism to address power imbalances between data-subjects and data-controllers. Professor Delacroix has recently served on the Public Policy Commission on the use of algorithms in the justice system (Law Society of England and Wales). She is also a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute.
  • PINEAU, Joelle – McGill University, Facebook
    Joelle Pineau is a faculty member at Mila and an Associate Professor and William Dawson Scholar at the School of Computer Science at McGill University, where she co-directs the Reasoning and Learning Lab. She is also co-Managing Director of Facebook AI Research and the director of its lab in Montreal. Pineau serves on the editorial board of the Journal of AI Research and the Journal of Machine Learning Research and is Past-President of the International Machine Learning Society. She is a Fellow of the AAAI, a Senior Fellow of CIFAR and a 2019 recipient of the Governor General’s Innovation Awards.
Session 3 – Avenir de l’emploi et impacts économiques de l’IA

L’efficacité de l’IA dans la mécanisation de tâches physiques et cognitives complexes a des répercussions économiques et sociales marquées, notamment en raison de ses progrès rapides. Des mesures proactives peuvent être nécessaires ; elles requièrent une bonne compréhension des effets potentiels de l’IA sur les principaux canaux économiques et sur la transformation du travail.

Leurs bios :

  • HARAYAMA, Yuko – Professor Emeritus, Tohoku University
    Yuko Harayama is currently a member of the Scientific Steering Committee, French Agency for Research (ANR). She is a former Executive Member of the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation Cabinet Office of Japan and Deputy Director of the Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation, OECD. She is a Legion D’Honneur recipient (Chevalier). Previously, she was Professor in the Department of Management Science and Technology at the Graduate School of Engineering of Tohoku University. She holds a Ph.D. in education sciences and a Ph.D. in economics, both from the University of Geneva.
  • MILANO, Michela – Università di Bologna
    Michela Milano is full professor at University of Bologna. She is Deputy President of the European Association of AI and past Executive Councilor of the AAAI, past member of the Executive Committee of the Association for Constraint Programming and of the Italian Association of AI. Her research activity concerns AI with particular focus on decision support and optimization systems in the area of computing, energy, mobility and policymaking. She has edited two collections on hybrid optimization and she is author of more than 150 scientific papers. In 2016, Milano has been the recipient of the Google Faculty Research Award on the use of deep network in combinatorial optimization.
Session 4 – Déléguer des décisions aux machines, facteur humain et supervision

Déléguer des décisions simples de la vie quotidienne ou complexes de la vie professionnelle à un assistant personnel informatisé, ou un double numérique, peut accroître nos capacités ou être une source d’aliénation. Pour éviter cette aliénation, il faut des procédures particulièrement intelligibles, des explications claires et explicites, une parfaite adéquation des fonctions d’évaluation de la machine avec nos critères, ainsi que la possibilité d’anticiper et de redonner le contrôle à l’humain lorsque cela se révèle nécessaire.

  • FINLAY, Rebecca – Vice-President, Engagement and Public Policy, CIFAR
    Rebecca leads CIFAR’s AI & Society program that supports the examination of questions AI will pose for all aspects of society through international workshops and policy labs. She is responsible for building partnerships with governments in Canada and abroad, including a joint call with CNRS and UKRI for AI & Society workshops. Prior to joining CIFAR, Rebecca held leadership roles in research, business and civil society organizations. She has degrees from McGill University and the University of Cambridge.
  • TAKEDA, Hideaki – National Institute of Informatics
    Hideaki Takeda is the professor of National Institute of Informatics (NII) and the professor of Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI). He was also the Sumitomo endowed professor at RACE in the University of Tokyo between 2005 and 2010. His research interests are in Semantic Web, Web Informatics, Knowledge-based Systems and Scholarly Communication. He is the chair of the Ethics Committee in Japanese Society of Artificial Intelligence (JSAI) since 2018.

MERCREDI 30 OCTOBRE

Session 5 – IA & valeurs humaines : inégalités, biais, équité, représentation des minorités, égalité des sexes

Il est désormais admis que l’apprentissage machine supervisé reproduit les biais et les inégalités existant dans les jeux de données d’entraînement. C’est aussi le cas des algorithmes conçus par des humains qui, souvent de manière involontaire, appliquent les hypothèses injustes de leurs créateurs. Cette session est l’occasion de discuter de la situation et des moyens de contourner les biais résultant de jeux de données ou d’algorithmes d’entraînement inappropriés, de sorte à construire des systèmes d’IA qui respectent les valeurs humaines fondamentales.

Sa bio :

  • SOULIE FOGELMAN, Françoise – Hub France IA
    Françoise Soulié Fogelman is a member of the Board of Directors of the Hub France IA and a member of the AI High Level Experts group of the European Commission. She has over 40 years’ experience working with neural networks, machine learning, social network analysis and Big Data in academia and in industry. Soulié funded a startup called Mimetics to develop a neural-network based optical-character product. She is currently Scientific Advisor at Hub France IA. Soulié has co-authored more than 140 scientific publications and 13 books.
Session 6 – Prochains défis majeurs à relever dans le domaine des principales technologies de l’IA

En dépit de son succès grandissant dans la société et l’économie, l’intelligence artificielle continue de soulever de nombreuses questions qu’il sera possible de traiter par davantage de recherches.

Des progrès doivent être faits dans les paradigmes d’apprentissage machine en vue de les rendre plus efficaces et moins gourmands en données. De plus, des ponts entre l’IA fondée sur les données et celle fondée sur les modèles peuvent être établis pour tirer profit du meilleur des deux approches. Par ailleurs, de nombreuses situations réelles ne peuvent toutefois pas encore être gérées par les robots existants, qui doivent progresser en matière de perception, d’interprétation d’une scène ou de coordination de groupe.

La session abordera les défis scientifiques et technologiques majeurs de l’IA de base.

Sa bio :

  • TSUJII, Junichi – Fellow, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan; Director, Artificial Intelligence Research Center (AIRC), AIST; Professor, School of Computer Science, University of Manchester Professor Junichi Tsujii is the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center (AIRC) and a Fellow of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). Before taking on his current position, he first became an associate professor at Kyoto University, then University of Manchester professor in 1988, Tokyo University Graduate School professor in 1995, and principal researcher for Microsoft Research Asia (Beijing) in 2011. He is also a University of Manchester professor. Tsujii was awarded the Medals of Honor with Purple Ribbon (2010), Okawa Award (2015) and many others. He is an ACL fellow and IJPS fellow.
Session 7 – L’IA au service de l’humanité : les enjeux mondiaux

En se fondant sur les discussions des six sessions précédentes, ce panel se penchera sur les défis majeurs de notre société et examinera comment l’IA peut contribuer à les résoudre si elle est correctement conçue, en répondant aux exigences de fiabilité, de facteur humain et de supervision, de gouvernance adaptée des données, d’élimination des biais de toute sorte, au service des travailleurs humains. Les enjeux en matière d’éducation, de santé, d’environnement et de science seront présentés comme des exemples de domaines qui pourront tirer profit d’une bonne IA.

  • MACLURE, Jocelyn – Laval University/Commission de l’éthique en science et en technologie du Québec
    Jocelyn Maclure is Full Professor of Philosophy at Laval University and the current President of the Ethics in Science and Technology Commission of the Quebec Government. Known for his work in political philosophy and ethics, his recent work focusses on artificial intelligence and end of life issues. He coauthored, with Charles Taylor, Secularism and Freedom of Conscience (Harvard University Press, 2011). His recent work appeared in Dialogue: Canadian Philosophical Review, McGill Law Journal and AI & Society.
  • RUSSELL, Stuart – University of California at Berkeley
    Stuart Russell is a Professor of Computer Science at Berkeley and an Honorary Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford. He held the Chaire Blaise Pascal in Paris from 2012 to 2014 and is an Andrew Carnegie Fellow. He is the author (with Peter Norvig) of “Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach, “the standard text in the field. His current research interests include first-order probabilistic languages, global seismic monitoring for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, and the long-term implications of AI for humanity.
