Last April, the Île-de-France Region launched its call for projects Innov’up Expérimentation “IA & Education 2020-2021”. This week, the jury unveiled the 5 companies selected to test new solutions combining artificial intelligence and education at the Paul Valéry high school-college in Paris 12e: Didask, Evidence B, Impala, Learning Robots and Tralalere.

How to train in artificial intelligence? How can AI help the teacher in his teaching practice and promote student learning? These were the objectives of the call for projects Innov’up Expérimentation “AI & Education 2020-2021”, launched by the Île-de-France Region last April.

Innov’up Experimentation

This aid scheme takes the form of a grant which may be supplemented by a repayable advance or a loan. With Innov’up, the Île-de-France Region supports innovative Paris Region companies in taking their ideas to market. Innov’up Expérimentation is aimed more particularly at companies wishing to test an innovative solution under real conditions before it is marketed.

In the end, 5 Paris Region companies, training in AI and/or developing technological solutions using AI for pedagogical innovation in secondary education were selected.

The winners will share €500,000 in regional grants. And experiments will take place at the lycée-collège Paul Valéry in Paris 12e, the future Artificial Intelligence Campus of the Île-de-France Region, during the 2020-2021 school year.

They will also benefit from technical support with the support of Cap Digital and pedagogical support from the Paris Rectorat.

This call for projects is part of the development of campuses and the Artificial Intelligence strategy of the Île-de-France Region, in partnership with the Paris Rectorat, Cap Digital and Bpifrance.

The 5 winning companies of the call for projects Innov’up Expérimentation IA & Education 2020-2021

Didask: supports teachers in the creation and dissemination of online learning modules for their students, by providing technology integrating AI.

Evidence B: proposes an AI-based technological solution to help students master the French language through an innovative approach based on the most recent work and discoveries in linguistics.

Impala: is at the origin of a particularly innovative educational and professional orientation tool for high school and college students and schools in France. Impala is working on the development of AI algorithms that will allow better customization and relevance of guidance proposals.

Learning Robots: proposes to various audiences to understand what artificial intelligence is thanks to the AlphaI learning robot and neural network modeling.

Tralalere: supported by a consortium of experts in artificial intelligence, adaptive systems, didactics and instructional engineering, Tralalere is working to build MindMath, an adaptive and engaging platform for learning mathematics.

Paul Valéry High School, future IA campus

The Region and the Paris Rectorate have been working for more than a year to set up France’s first Artificial Intelligence campus at the Lycée Paul Valéry, in Paris 12e. The campus will carry out several actions:

  • Raise awareness and acculturate the public to AI: high school students, middle school students, the educational community, but also local residents and residents of the Ile-de-France region,
  • Training in “AI” and through “AI” by mobilising innovative companies from the world of “educational technologies”, as EdTech calls it,
  • Disseminate AI solutions in Ile-de-France companies through training and support.

The school will benefit from the contributions of AI in its design and operation with an “intelligent building” approach. It will eventually have dedicated areas for conducting collaborative projects and welcoming its partners thanks to: an IA lab’ research area, a project and business incubator, an IA training area, a coworking area, a fablab, a connector-demonstrator area, etc.
