Cloud and digital transformation : Thales expands its ecosystem of technology partners

Thales has unveiled new partners to help companies accelerate, reduce cyber risks and secure digital transformation initiatives. The group, which notably invests in digital innovations (connectivity, big data, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity), has integrated major technology providers of blockchain, cloud computing, DevOps, code signing and Internet of Things (IoT), including F5 and VMWare Tanzu into its ecosystem.

Enterprises can now secure digital transformation initiatives in new markets including blockchain, cloud, DevOps, IoT and code signing, and reduce cyber risks as Thales extends its data protection ecosystem to more than 300 technology partners.

Through these technology integrations, which today include more than 500 IT products and services, Thales aims to enable organizations to integrate its data encryption, security hardware modules, key management and access management technologies with their existing IT infrastructures and cloud services to protect applications, data and identities. This will make it easier for organizations to implement centralized data protection and access management controls throughout the customer experience.

“Cloud use and digital transformation are now the cornerstone of any modern enterprise,” said Sébastien Cano, senior vice president, Cloud Protection and Software Licensing at Thales.

“Players who are truly ahead of the game achieve this by integrating security into their processes, right from the design stage. By leveraging our data protection products and services with hundreds of technology partners, we ensure that our customers and their sensitive data are protected throughout their entire digital transformation and remain at the forefront of their industries.

Protecting the blockchain

Thales is working with leading companies that are driving the adoption of blockchain technology by integrating its Luna Network hardware security modules (HSMs) as a trusted foundation for securing blockchain-based transactions.

Most recently, Thales has integrated its HSM Luna Network into CLS Group – a dedicated crypto processor, specifically designed for crypto key lifecycle protection – and Hyperledger – a multi-project open source collaborative effort spearheaded by the Linux Foundation, created to promote blockchain technologies across all sectors.

Securing the cloud transformation

Currently, organizations use an average of 29 cloud services to meet their needs for collaboration, computing power, customer relationship management and storage. Thales helps organizations secure the transition to the cloud with key and access management solutions that integrate with popular cloud platforms and services, including AWS, Azure, Box, Office365 and Slack.

Thales’ SafeNet Trusted Access enables organizations to modernize their identity and access management (IAM) and information systems as part of their cloud transformation initiatives. For example, integrations with Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) solutions such as SailPoint enable secure identity management and governance flows; PAM-based privileged user management solutions such as BeyondTrust are secure at the point of access; and continuous authentication and access control is ensured through integration with CipherCloud’s CASB solution.

Securing Hybrid Computing Environments

As organizations rapidly adopt cloud services and move their infrastructure to the cloud, the majority of organizations are maintaining hybrid computing environments. The transition between modern IAM and cloud architectures is one of the main challenges for these organizations. With this in mind, the integration of SafeNet Trusted Access with F5 BIG IP enables the deployment of intelligent SSO for cloud services, while securing existing on-premise applications.

“Data and applications are increasingly vital to any organization, regardless of industry,” said John Morgan, VP & General Manager of F5.

“In order for every customer to take full advantage of this digital transformation, applications and their underlying data must be protected. By joining Thales’ partner ecosystem, we continue our long history of working together to help our customers achieve positive business results through a secure digital transformation”.

Building Trust in DevOps

Digital certificates play an integral role in DevOps workflows and processes to authenticate all users, devices and applications. Secure identities and certificates create trust within corporate infrastructures, pipelines, codes and containers. Thales has expanded its list of DevOps partners to include Red Hat, HashiCorp, Kubernetes, VMWare Tanzu, Docker and Google to enable customers to reap the benefits of automation, flexibility, native cloud applications and digital transformation.

Identity and Data Security in the IoT

In order to secure, manage and authenticate the billions of identities that will be created in the IoT over the next few years, Thales has recently strengthened the integration of its HSM, data encryption and key management solutions with leading IoT security solution providers such as Cisco, Microsoft, DigiCert, Sectigo, GlobalSign, KeyFactor and Venafi.

Code Signing is becoming an essential service for businesses

Code signing has emerged as an essential element for any organization distributing software to customers and partners. The code signature verifies the identity of the issuer of a code and certifies that it has not been modified since it was signed. Certificates provided with software that has been signed are a fundamental method for users to determine whether software is from a legitimate source before installing it. Today, many software distribution (marketplace) platforms, including mobile application platforms, require software to meet specific digital signature requirements.

One of the obligations is for applicants to generate and store their private key using a FIPS 140-2 level 2 certified IT solution. This can be an HSM that protects the identity of a server, a virtualization server or a user. Thales HSMs take security to the next level by storing signature documents in a hardware device, thus guaranteeing the authenticity and integrity of software files. Thales’ code signing partners include Adobe, DigiCert, Garantir GlobalSign, Keyfactor, Microsoft and Venafi.
