Luc Julia, French specialist in artificial intelligence, becomes Renault’s scientific director

Luc Julia, an expert in artificial intelligence and in the field of human-machine interfaces, has just been appointed by Renault CEO Luca de Meo as the group’s scientific director. The French engineer will support the carmaker in several areas related to AI. His arrival is a real turning point for Renault, which is one of the world leaders in artificial intelligence.

Luc Julia has held numerous positions of responsibility throughout his career, notably in Silicon Valley companies. He was a researcher at Stanford University, invested in the development of start-ups and finally joined major technology groups.

He was CTO and senior vice president in charge of innovation for Samsung Electronics until the beginning of the calendar year, and he also made his mark at Apple, where his short one-year stint was punctuated by the development of Siri, the iPhone’s voice recognition system. He is also the originator of patents on voice recognition systems, a technology he was already working on in the 1990s.

A graduate in mathematics and computer science from the Pierre et Marie Curie University – Paris VI, Luc Julia is also the author of the book L’intelligence artificielle n’existe pas published in 2019.
