How the Ambroise Paré clinic wants to improve screening for cardiac arrhythmias with Cardiologs

The Cardiologs solution has just been chosen by the Ambroise Paré clinic in Neuilly-sur-Seine to reinforce its services in cardiology. The French company proposes an integrated AI platform to perform electrocardiogram (ECG) diagnoses and to reduce ECG reading time.

A solution to reduce the time to perform electrocardiogram diagnoses

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. One million French people suffer from it and it more than doubles the risk of a stroke. To avoid a recurrence, anticoagulant treatment is prescribed to patients who have already suffered a first AF.

However, screening for AF in patients whose cause of stroke is undetermined requires a Holter-type assessment: a portable device that records the patient’s heart rate and rhythm on a daily basis. This process can take up to two weeks to manually analyze the results. Unfortunately, this can be fatal for some patients at high risk of stroke.

This is where Cardiologs comes in, a French digital health start-up that aims to democratize access to expert cardiac care through the use of artificial intelligence and the cloud.

Deep learning for automatic detection

The solution is based on deep learning to analyze ECGs and automatically detect cardiac arrhythmias. A clinic like Ambroise Paré in Neuilly-sur-Seine may have to perform more than a thousand Holter analyses per year, which means that it can only process a small number of long-term recordings and handle the others efficiently.

Thanks to artificial intelligence and its deep learning model, Cardiologs announces that it has succeeded in significantly reducing the analysis time of these ECG recordings compared to the software usually used in these cases. This platform uses cloud technology to store and process data easily and does not require additional computer equipment. It can be accessed from any device with internet access.

Cardiologs CEO, Yann Fleureau said of the use of his software in clinics:

“It is a great satisfaction for the entire Cardiologs team to see that the use of our solution increases diagnostic capabilities, and in particular allows for a transition to long-term examinations that have proven their diagnostic superiority. Giving a medical team the technical ability to identify pathologies that previously remained undetected is the greatest achievement.”

This cloud-based ECG analysis solution received the European Conformity Mark (CE) in August 2016 and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States in June 2017.
