Capgemini becomes World Rugby’s digital transformation partner through to the 2023 World Cup

From September 8 to October 28, 2023, the Rugby World Cup, one of the world’s greatest sporting events, will take place in France. Two years to the day before the kick-off of the first match between the host country and New Zealand, World Rugby announces its partnership with Capgemini. The company will become World Rugby’s global “digital transformation” partner until 2023.

Bringing cloud, AI and data analytics to the world of rugby through Capgemini’s expertise

The partnership announced between World Rugby and Capgemini aims to contribute to the development of sport and more specifically rugby around the world. This is not the first time the company has invested in the sport, as it is currently the major innovation partner of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, among other commitments.

Capgemini’s technology expertise will support the tournament management systems and play a crucial role in the delivery of results, including the men’s and women’s World Rugby rankings. In addition, over the next three years, Capgemini will work with World Rugby to bring a new dimension to the digital experience for fans and coaches by providing its leading capabilities in data analytics, artificial intelligence and the cloud.

Capgemini has a presence in several world rugby nations including England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, and Italy (i.e. the countries participating in the VI Nations tournament), as well as in the Asia-Pacific market in nations where rugby is a national sport such as Australia and New Zealand.

A partnership to promote Capgemini’s technology expertise

Commenting on his firm’s inclusion in the list of Rugby World Cup 2023 partners, Aiman Ezzat, Group CEO of Capgemini, said:

“At Capgemini, we share the values of the rugby community: passion, team spirit and diversity are key foundations for both our organisations. I am delighted that Capgemini will bring its strong innovation, digital and technology expertise to enrich the experience of one of the world’s greatest sporting events in 2023. This new global partnership reflects the international reach and diversity of the Capgemini Group on the world stage.”

Alan Gilpin, CEO of World Rugby, notes the importance of using new technologies and AI specifically to promote rugby around the world:

“We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with Capgemini and welcome them as one of our six Major Partners for Rugby World Cup 2023 in France. This partnership reflects our ambition to continue to innovate and deepen our relationships with fans, enriching their experience, through the adoption of new technologies and digital platforms. Capgemini is the ideal partner to help us deliver on this shared vision.”

As World Rugby’s Global Digital Transformation Partner, Capgemini will play its full part in enabling the international federation to execute key parts of its strategic plan and strategy to improve player health, through the delivery of innovative digital solutions to support the growth of the sport at all levels.
