Atos and Inria are working together to develop innovative solutions in several areas

After announcing the acquisition of three companies and launching a digital platform for banks and insurers, Atos has signed a partnership agreement with Inria. This collaboration is part of a common desire to bring the industrial fabric closer to the world of research, to enrich research work with concrete use cases, in order to encourage innovation.

Bringing together to promote innovation

Both parties will contribute their expertise in the development of new innovative solutions in six scientific areas and will seek to benefit from this partnership. For Atos, the aim will be to eventually integrate the concrete applications of the research results achieved jointly into its solutions. Inria, for its part, will gain access to essential research problems, as they relate to important application challenges for the future and industrial issues.

Elie Girard, CEO of Atos, said:

Six scientific themes including artificial intelligence

After reflection, Inria and Atos have identified six scientific themes that will constitute their research, development, experimentation and expertise axes:

  • Decarbonization: eco-design and eco-functioning of data centers,
Green” applications, IT solutions supporting sustainable development (“IT for green”).
  • High-performance computing: in a context of increasing complexity and diversity
of computing technologies, work will aim to improve the execution and supervision of applications – by integrating machine learning – as well as to improve the optimization of communications, all with a view to reducing energy consumption.
  • Climatology: improving numerical forecasting systems for climatology
Climatology: improvement of numerical forecasting systems for climatology, reduction of associated computing costs and of the energy footprint of numerical simulations.
  • Quantum computing: research on high-level programming languages and
programming languages and error-correcting codes for Large Scale Quantum
    Computing (LSQ).
  • Cybersecurity: development of cryptographic capabilities, including the design of
including the design of post-quantum algorithms resistant to certain types of cyber-attacks, the generation of randomness, and the securing of systems in constrained environments.
  • Artificial intelligence: work on reinforcement learning
(reinforcement learning), in particular to consolidate Atos’ capabilities in the field of Artificial Intelligence for Defence, to assist in the conduct of operations in the field.

Bruno Sportisse, President and CEO of Inria, talks about these themes while mentioning the collaboration with Atos:

“This ambitious agreement with Atos will enable us to jointly strengthen our impact. It is in line with Inria’s policy, which aims to enter into strategic
strategic partnerships to accelerate the construction of a scientific, technological and industrial leadership
technological and industrial leadership for France, which is committed to the European dynamic, in and through digital technology. By working together on major fields, such as sustainable digital, quantum computing, HPC or AI, we will contribute to our technological sovereignty.”
